The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The .460 Rowland cartridge was designed and trademarked by Johnny Ray Rowland, host of The Shooting Show. The development of the 460 Rowland cartridge is attributed to his friend Jim Clark of Clark Custom Guns. The purpose and intent of the .460 Rowland is to offer ".44 Magnum-like" performance in a standard seimautomatic pistol. This is accomplished partly by lengthening the .45 ACP case by 1/16-inch but, of at least equal importance, by strengthening the interior dimensions. Bullet diameter is the same as the .45 ACP and .45 ACP reloading dies can be used, but the .460 Rowland will not chamber in a semiauto 45 ACP; and .45 ACP ammo cannot be used in a .460 Rowland chamber. Factory loads include a 185-grain JHP at 1550 fps and a 230-grain bullet at 1340 fps...which truly is near-.44 Magnum performance from a standard 1911 frame. Jim Clark led the way with drop-in conversion kits, and conversions for Glocks and other semiautomatic pistols are available. Recoil is obviously much heavier —
