The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 6.5x47 Lapua was developed by Lapua in 2005 in cooperation with Swiss gunmaker Grünig & Elmiger AG in 2005. Its short 1.9-inch case is similar to the 7.62x51 NATO case, but the 6.5x47 is a unique case using a small rifle primer. It was designed for medium to long range (300 to 1000 meter) competition using the high Ballistic Coefficient of aerodynamic 6.5mm bullets. Velocity with a 140-grain bullet is about 2665 fps, thus a bit slower than the 6.5mm Creedmoor, but it remains supersonic to well beyond 1000 meters, so it does its work with minimal recoil, and has acquired a reputation for extreme accuracy. —
