The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Primarily credited to John Taffin, the .41 Special is a wildcat revolver cartridge based on a shortened .41 Remington Magnum case, developed about 1963, just before the 1964 introduction of the .41 Magnum. It is essentially what the .38 Special is to the .357; and the .44 Special to the .44 Magnum, thus offering a lower-recoil option that can be fired in the same chamber as the longer and more powerful "magnum" version. Although never manufactured in commercial revolvers or loaded by major ammo manufacturers, the .41 Special has been offered by numerous custom pistolsmiths, and headstamped brass has been offered. The .41 Special uses the same .410-inch bullet diameter as the .41 Remington Magnum...and uses the same case shortened by one-tenth of an inch. —
