The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 7.5X55mm Swiss (7.5X55mm Swiss Schmidt-Rubin) dates back to 1889, originally with a bullet diameter of .299-inch. In 1911 a 174-grain spitzer bullet was adopted and the bullet diameter was changed to .308-inch (same as the American .30-caliber). The 7.5X55mm Swiss was chambered to succeeding variations of the Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull action, but the 1911 version was faster and loaded to higher pressure, so current loadings must not be used in original Model 1889 rifles. The standard military load used a 174-grain bullet at 2560 fps. Current factory loads are similar, so performance is essentially the same as the 7.62X51mm NATO. —
