The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The .455 Webley (.455 Revolver Mark II) was developed in 1897 and adopted by the British Army in the same year. It has a shorter (.7677-inch) case than the previous .455 Mark I to more efficiently burn Cordite powder. Obviously associated with several generations of the Webley top-break double-action revolver, the .455 Mark II remained in service until after WWII, when it was replaced by the 9mm as part of NATO standardization. The original load was a heavy 265-grain round-nose bullet at a mild 600 fps. Although never popular in the United States, the .455 Mark II is a classic military revolver cartridge that provided good service in countless conflicts small and large. —
