The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 7mm Shooting Times Westerner (STW) was wildcatted by gunwriter Layne Simpson in the late 1980s and adopted by Remington in 1996. Based on the 8mm Remington Magnum case necked down, the 7mm STW is a full-length magnum with 2.850-inch belted case. At the time it was the fastest commercial 7mm, but was eclipsed by the 7mm RUM just a few years later. Like the 7mm RUM, the 7mm STW is overbore capacity, meaning that it does best with longer barrels, is finicky about propellants, and causes rapid bore erosion--but it is also an extremely flat-shooting and very effective hunting cartridge for Western game at longer ranges...which is why it was so named. —
